Discrimination is often linked with employment and in many cases, allegations of discrimination do arise within that relationship.
However, discrimination can occur outside of employment, for example, in the provision of services to customers and clients.
Discrimination legislation provides that an individual cannot be treated less favourably than another or be discriminated against either directly or indirectly on many grounds, including sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin and age.
ERT has considerable experience in dealing with discrimination issues both within the employment context and outside of that. We have acted in a number of cases involving self-employed professionals and consultants, securing substantial awards, as well as safeguarding the individual in his/her continuing professional capacity.
The firm also has experience of acting for organisations in defending claims brought by employees that arise from age and disability as well as race and sex. We also act for organisations in defending claims brought by customers and individuals alleging that the service provided or the facility available is in some way discriminatory.
Our expertise in litigation and dispute resolution enables our lawyers to identify issues from an early stage. This can be particularly important with discrimination issues.
